Leila P. Smith, 93, of Tylertown, died Jan. 22, 2020, at The Sanctuary at Passages Hospice in New Orleans.
Born Jan. 31, 1926, in Tylertown, she was the daughter of the late Richard Price and Leal James Price. She attended school in Walthall County and was an employee at Haspel Factory for many years. She was a member of Magee’s Creek MB Church where she served on the mother board ministry, attended Sunday School, women’s mission ministry and a gospel choir member.
She loved working with her flowers and growing collard greens until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Julius Conerly and Bernell Smith; three children, Douglas Smith, Bernell Smith Jr. and Betty Quinn; two grandchildren, Terry Smith and Benny Swanigan.
Survivors are one daughter, Lamarion (Cleophas) Swanigan of New Orleans; three grandchildren, Frederick Quinn, Edrick (Mary) Quinn of Tylertown, Margi Auduri of New Orleans; seven great grandsons, Laburmie Swanigan of Baltimore, MD, Tony and Jude Auduri both of New Orleans, Terry Smith of Hattiesburg, Lee Smith and Bernell Smith both of Foxworth, Derick Quinn of Tylertown; four great granddaughters, Brandy Cunningham of San Diego,CA; Keyuna and Edshiona Quinn both of Tylertown, and Essie Smith of Foxworth; one sister, Mary Alice Jefferson; one daughter-in-law, Leonia Conerly of Tylertown.
A funeral service was Feb. 1, 2020, at Magee’s Creek M.B.C., with Dr. George Coney officiating, interment in Magee’s Creek Cemetery, Tylertown.
Pallbearers were Edrick Quinn, Michael Swanigan, Anthony Auduri, Fredrick Quinn, Jude Auduri and Tony Auduri.
Honorary pallbearers were Ray Youngblood, Laburmie Swanigan, Benny Swanigan, Jr., James Fairley, Curlee Andrews and Hosea Lyles
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
