Van Claude Hurst, Sr., 84, of McComb, died March 7, 2020, at his residence in McComb.
Born March 4, 1936, in Pike County, he was the son of the late Willie Hurst and the late Virgil Butler Hurst. Hurst was married to Rosie Mae Warren May 10, 1958. They were married 61 years upon his death and had 12 children together.
He worked as a laborer and was self-employed as a handyman. He worked hard providing for his family.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Roger Hurst; one daughter, Myrtle Hurst; one brother and five sisters.
Survivors are his wife, Rose Mae Hurst; ten children, Van Hurst Jr. (Lynn) of Jackson, LA, Ruby Strauder (Ernest) of Kenner, LA, Randy Hurst (Minola) of Natchez, Toney Curtis Hurst (Jennifer) of McComb, Deborah Gardner of Jackson, Otis Ray Hurst (Victoria) of Magnolia, Larry, Willie, Titus, and Calvin Hurst all of Progress; 24 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.
A funeral service was March 15, 2020, at Kelly MBC, with Rev. Kendall Poole officiating and Min. Van C. Hurst, Jr. rendering the eulogy, interment in Kelly MBC Cemetery in Osyka.
Pallbearers were Roshawn Hurst, Shu’Cori Hurst, Randy Hurst Jr., Wil’shawn Hurst, Titus Hurst, Titus Hurst Jr., La’Darius Fortenberry, Toney Hurst Jr., Shu’Mari Hurst, Tyrin Fortenberry and Donovan Hurst
Honorary pallbearers were Van Hurst Jr., Randy Hurst, Willie Hurst, Titus Hurst, Larry Hurst, Toney Hurst, Otis Hurst and Calvin Hurst.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
