Marvin Harvey
Dec. 24, 1925 – May 22, 2020
A graveside service for Marvin Lee Harvey, 94, of Jayess, was Sunday, May 24, 2020, at Sartinville Cemetery with Rev. David Hedden officiating.
Harvey died at New Dawn Retirement Home in Lincoln County May 22, 2020. He was born Dec. 24, 1925, in Sartinville to the late Lillie Mae Peavy Harvey and Vaught Benny Harvey. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers J.M. Harvey, Benny Harvey, and five sisters Lorene Martin, Lurlene Dyess, Myrna Slaughter, Hilda Haney, and Joyce Dixon and grandson Gabriel Q. Mulligan.
After working for Exxon over 30 years, he retired to a life on his farm with his wife. He enjoyed raising cattle and being on a tractor, but he hunted, fished, and played with the grandchildren whenever possible. He and his brother Jerry always managed to plant a garden large enough to provide vegetables for the community. But he always looked forward to Sundays. He loved meeting with his Christian friends, his men’s Sunday School class, and the kids asking for peppermint. Although he rarely spoke of it, his family is proud of his service in World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years Betty Ruth Day Harvey; two daughters Ruth (J.C.) Stringer and Vicki (Shannon) Mulligan; two brothers Jerry (Mary) Harvey and Richard (Peggy) Harvey; five grandchildren Adam Bacot, Alexander Mulligan, Decklin Mulligan, Aidan Mulligan, Gabriella Mulligan; five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Donald Martin, Perry Martin, Lynn Harvey, Douglas Knight, Greg Harvey, Darrel Dixon, Paul Dixon, and Austin Knight.
Capps Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Family and friends may sign an online guestbook at www.hartmanhughesfuneralhome.com
