Norma Jean Jackson, 72 of New Orleans, Tylertown-native, died May 19, 2020, at her residence in New Orleans. She was born Jan. 21, 1948, in Walthall County to the late K. C. Peters and Hilda Jones-Peters.
A service celebrating her life was May 30, 2020, 1 p.m. at Craft-Ginn Funeral Chapel. Rev. Melvin Jackson presided over the services, burial in the St. James UMC Cemetery.
She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at St. James Methodist Church. She received her education in Tylertown and graduated from J J. Gulledge Memorial High School.
She was married to Carey Jackson, Sr. on the front steps of her parents’ home in Tylertown July 5, 1969. They had one son and two daughters. She joined with her husband at Second King Solomon Baptist Church, New Orleans, where she was a faithful member until her health began to decline. Mrs. Jackson served as a member of the choir and the hospitality ministry. She was employed at Walmart for over 20 years and received numerous awards for her hard work and education.
Survivors are her husband of 50 years Carey Jackson, Sr.; children: Carey Jackson, Jr. Kim Jackson-Holmes and Kisha Jackson-Thompson (Maurice III); grandchildren: Careyan Jackson, Khristopher Holmes, Cortez Brent, Kyla Holmes, Carey Jackson, III, Jeyshaun Holmes, Maurice Thompson IV, Monae’ Thompson and Mavrick Thompson; four sisters: Iva (Mack) McClinton, Gladys (Edward) McGowan, Shirley (Alfred Sr.) Harris and Twin sister, Norma Ruth Peters; In-laws: Leo (Rita) Jackson, Jr., Ace Jackson, Lovie (Herbert) McGee, Ladine (Aaron) Montgomery and Rev. Melvin (Delia) Jackson, Sr.; God-sons: Mark Harris and Reginald McClinton.
