A funeral service for Sarah Rushing McElveen, 95, of Tylertown, was July 11, 2020, at Tylertown Cemetery with Rev. Douglas Lee officiating.
Mrs. McElveen died at Forrest General Hospital July 9, 2020. She was born Feb. 19, 1925, in Tylertown to the late Eula and Alex Rushing. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Newton McElveen and seven brothers and sisters.
As a resident of Diversicare for the last 19 years she loved visiting with family and friends, loving on grandkids and great grandkids; reading her Bible and The Tylertown Times along with playing find the word puzzles. While at Diversicare she enjoyed getting to know the residents and helping them when she could, passing out M&M’s to the people as they went by her door. She was a long-time member of Union Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching the children. She also worked for 20 years as a salesclerk for W.E. Walker Stores Inc.
Survivors include her sons and daughter Everett McElveen, Jerry (Pat) McElveen, Janice (Fred) Thompson, Buster (Connie) McElveen; grandchildren Eddie McElveen, Melanie (Mike) Kerr, Greg (Belinda) McElveen, Chad McElveen, Kevin (Amber) Brumfield, Alex (Lori) Brumfield, Misty (Jeff) Smith, Amanda (David) Eggan, Erika (Troy) McKey; 16 great-grandchildren; four great-great- grandchildren sisters Juanita “Jo” Holmes and Polly Boyd; brother A.B. Rushing Jr.; good friend Bobby Lenoir.
Pallbearers were Greg McElveen, Chad McElveen, Kevin Brumfield, Alex Brumfield, Mike Kerr, and Jeff Smith.
Honorary pallbearers were David Eggan, Troy McKey, Trey McElveen, and Eddie McElveen.
