Funeral services for R.J. Ellis, 90, of Tylertown, were at Centerville Baptist Church (Dexter) Oct. 1, 2020, with Rev. James Thornhill and Rev. Tommy Hudnell officiating, burial at Centerville Baptist Church Cemetery (Dexter).
Ellis died at his residence Sept. 29, 2020. He was born July 16, 1930, in Walthall County to the late Gladys and Jim Ellis. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Devon Ellis and Edgar Ellis.
Ellis was a member of Centerville Baptist Church in Dexter where he was a Sunday School teacher and the church treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the local Masonic Lodge and moved his way up to become a Shriner. He worked at the papermill until 1964 and then became a dairy farmer until his retirement. He and his wife Joy traveled all over the U.S. in their motorhome and even traveled overseas to the Holy Land twice.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years Joy Ellis; children Peggy (Price) Barnes, Jeffrey (Pam) Ellis, Beverly (Tim) Sumrall; grandchildren Doyce Barnes, Carla (Casey) Odom, Brandi (Kyle) Kirkland, Amanda (Sean) Porter, Leland (Stephanie) Sumrall, Kristen (Nick) Goings; great-grandchildren Justin Barnes, Adrienne Barnes, Annistyn Odom, Braydon Kirkland, Tyler Porter, Jake Porter, Maddox Goings, Maverick Goings, Dillon Sumrall, and Kori Sumrall.
