Marlins end season with three losses in playoffs

The Miami Marlins’ playoff run, their unexpectedly successful season in Year 3 of their rebuild ended last Thursday with a 7-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves. It ended Miami’s run after game three in the best of five National League Division Series. Atlanta won 9-5 and 2-0 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
But the Marlins accomplished plenty this year, although they didn’t reach the end goal of a World Series.
They rose from being “bottom feeders” to being one of the great stories in baseball this season, finding themselves among the final eight teams playing under the cloud of a pandemic.
McComb native Corey Dickerson, who grew up in Brookhaven, finished his first season with the Marlins. The left fielder is the son of Tim and Becky Dickerson of Hattiesburg and grandson of Frances McKenzie and the late Marion McKenzie.
