Mary Ruth Carr Fortenberry, 71, of Tylertown, died Oct. 8, 2020, at her residence in Tylertown.
Born May 9, 1949, in Tylertown, she was the daughter of the late Percy Carr and the late Martha Dillon Carr. She graduated from JJ Gulledge High School in 1969 and was a lifelong resident of Tylertown. She married Billie Ray Fortenberry in 1970 and to this union three sons were born and also later welcomed twin girls into their family. She loved to cook for her family and friends.
As a child, Mrs. Fortenberry was a member of East Sunny Hill MB Church; however, she later joined First Apostolic Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Ruberl Carr, Charlie Carr, and Percy Carr Jr.; one sister, Hattie Lee Gutter; and a sister-in-law, Annie Carr.
Survivors are her husband, Billie Ray Fortenberry; three sons: Alonzo (Servia) Fortenberry and Tavel (Denise) Fortenberry, both of McComb, and LaBoris (Kywanda) Fortenberry of Houston, TX; two daughters: Samantha Fortenberry of Tylertown and Sabrina Fortenberry of Atlanta, GA; her grandchildren: DeCarloe, Malcolm, Raven, Ariel, Monique, Yasmine, Edward, TaQuie, Kayla, KaBreya, Nakhiya, Lakaiden, Apollo, and NOva; her sisters: evangelist Lula (Charles) Shields, Garazine (Claude) Thomas, and Sandra Carr; a brother-in-law, Joe Gutter; a sister-in-law, Carrie Carr; a Godson, Charles Jackson.
A funeral service was Oct. 17, 2020, at First Apostolic Church, McComb, pastor Eric Brister rendering the eulogy and officiating, interment in Tylertown Cemetery II.
Pallbearers were Matthew Gutter, Willie Shields, Christopher Shields, Kennard Carr, Adrian Conerly, Henrene Harris Jr and Robert Harris.
Honorary pallbearers were Billie Ray Fortenberry, Joe Gutter, Charles Shields, Alonzo Fortenberry, Tavel Fortenberry and LaBoris Fortenberry.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
