Sheriff’s office, jail off-limits due to COVID

Yellow tape ropes off the entrance to the Walthall Sheriff’s Office, closing it to through-traffic after a COVID-19 incident at both WCSO and the county jail.
The county sheriff’s office is closed to through traffic after an employee tested positive for the COVID-19 virus recently, according to Sheriff Kyle Breland.
“County emergency management director Royce McKee was notified and came to spray both the sheriff’s office and the jail with a disinfectant supplied by MEMA that is supposed to be capable of killing the virus,” said Sheriff Kyle Breland.
The county jail is also off-limits to visitors for the same reason.
“We sure don’t want the virus in the jail, and we’re trying to keep an eye on that to avoid any chance of an outbreak,” the sheriff said. “Deputies and officers will continue to answer calls, and you can still contact us at 876-3481. We can take reports over the phone, and much of our business can be accomplished by phone.”
