Arthur “Sugar Ray” Hammond, 53, of Tylertown, died Nov. 7, 2020, in McComb.
Born Feb. 20, 1967, in New Orleans, he was the son of the late AJ Hammond and Earnestine Hammond Webb. At an early age he joined New Bethel United AME Church. Later in life he joined St. John #2 COGIC.
H enjoyed hunting wildlife and cooking. He finished his education at Oklahoma Job Corps. He relocated to New Orleans and then later Tylertown and worked in construction at a couple of different companies.
He was preceded in death by his father, AJ Hammond; grandparents, Willie Mile Hammond and Lela Hammond, and Annie Jackson Commadore and Curtis Commadore; four siblings, Annie Ruth Magee, Linda Ann Magee, Charles “Bo” Magee and Michael “Man” Magee.
Survivors are six children, Aundre Harris, Raymond Harris, Tory Harris, Raeshawn Harris, Racquel Harris and Shyrie Hammond; four grandchildren, all of New Orleans; his mother Earnestine Hammond Webb; two brothers, Ronnie (Darlene) Magee and Terry (LaDoris) Commadore; six sisters, Maxine Magee Young, Mary Edna Walker, Yvonne Magee Lockett, Clara Jane Toney, Shelia Hammond Fazande and Shirley Hammond Gonzales.
A memorial service was Nov. 29, 2020, at Southwest Event Center, with Apostle Michael G. Hammond, officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were Aundre Harris, Raymond Harris, Tory Harris, Ronnie Magee and Terry Commadore.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
