Funeral services for Glyndon Marie Pittman Hughes, 78, of Tylertown, were Nov. 23, 2020, at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Perry officiating, burial in the New Zion Cemetery.
Mrs. Hughes died at her daughter’s residence in Jackson Nov. 20, 2020. She was born June 9, 1942, in Tylertown, to the late Bertilde and Daniel Pittman. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Wilton Hughes and son Donald Hughes.
Mrs. Hughes was a lifetime member of New Zion Baptist Church and attended Redemption Church in Madison this past year. She was the president of the University of Mississippi Candlelighters for many years, raising money for families affected by childhood cancer. Glyndon taught her children to give back to their community and to leave this world better than they found it. She had a small home daycare in Jackson where she probably helped raise more than 50 children over her lifetime.
Survivors include her children LaDona (Todd) Peterson, Ronald (Sue) Hughes, and Timothy (Melissa) Hughes; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Sherry Kennedy.
Pallbearers were Devon Hughes, Jeremy Hughes, Daniel Hughes, Kyle Hughes, Michael Hughes, and Ben Spears.
