Charles Long, 71 of Tylertown, died Nov. 29, 2020, at UMMC in Jackson. Long was born April 6, 1949, to Charles and Dorothy Barnes in Franklinton.
His graveside funeral service was Dec. 2, 2020, at the Barnes/Long Cemetery, Rev. Harvey Bernard officiating with interment and military honors to follow.
Lonb was a graduate of Washington Parish High School, Franklinton. He was a US Marine Corp Veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded several medals and awards. In 1969, he joined the Armed Forces and was assigned to USA Marine Corps BAse Camp, Pendleton, CA and actively served in the Vietnam War. He served his country honorably for 6 years, discharged in 1975. He was employed by Gaylord Container-Paper Mill, Bogalusa, until his retirement on May 7, 1996.
His wife, Ruthie Lewis-Long of 28 years joined him with two step-daughters and two adopted children. Earlier in life he was married to Barbara Davis-Long where two children were born.
Survivors are his wife, Ruthie Lewis-Long; children: Demonsha and Akeba Long. Sharm (Ishmael) McInnis and Tiffany Holmes; 10 grandchildren;sisters: Marianne Washington, La Janice Londro; sisters-in-law: Mae Evelyn Steele, Frances (Charles) Wright, Joann Lewis, Janice (Larry) Clark, Sharon Magee and Deborah Lewis; brothers-in-law: Frank (Lois) Lewis and Jerry Londro.
