Monroe Smith, 76, of Tylertown, died Dec. 30, 2020, at Billdora Senior Care in Tylertown.
Born Dec. 7, 1944, in Walthall County, he was the son of the late Joseph Smith and Nerushia Childs Smith.
Earlier in life he was a science and math teacher at Wilkinson County Training School and eventually he moved to New Orleans. He retired at his birth home in Tylertown in 2005.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Nell Smith; two sisters, Viola Dillon and Zenobia Brister; five brothers, L.C. Smith, R.D. Smith, Joe Henry Smith, Arvis Smith and Willard Smith.
Survivors are his daughter, Rev. Doris Brietta Smith Hendricks; one grandson, Baron Philip Hendricks; two brothers, Horace (Theola) Smith and Voicell Smith; three sisters, Willeva Magee, Mary Lee Carr and Essie (Roy) Carr.
A graveside service was Dec. 9, 2021, at New Bethel UMC Cemetery with Supt. ML Smith rendering the eulogy and officiating.
Active and honorary pallbearers were J.C. Smith, Shawn Smith, Cruz Carr, Voicell Smith, Chris Smith and Randy Sartin.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
