Flora Jean Lewis was born May 14, 1951, to Mattie V. Daniels and Purvis Smith in Silver Creek. She died at Walthall General Hospital on May 14, 2021, after a brief illness.
A funeral service was May 22, 2021, at Craft-Ginn Funeral Chapel, Tylertown, Minister Wiley Quinn, Jr. officiating, interment at Magee Cemetery, Tylertown.
She spent her early years with her grandparents, the late Alonzo and Willie Mae Daniels. She began her Christian walk at an early age at South Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Prentiss, where she used her alto voice to sing praises to God. In high school she was a basketball player and loved playing softball for her grandfather’s team. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1970 and continued her education at Breland’s Beauty School, Columbia and became a licensed cosmetologist.
She moved to Tylertown, and on Dec. 25, 1971 she married the love of her life, Howard Donnell Lewis. She dedicated her time and love to her husband and their four children. Mrs. Lewis worshipped at Rocky Hill Baptist Church and Antioch Missionary Baptist Church upon her move to Tylertown.
She was preceded in death by her three daughters, Angela Johnson, LaDonna Lewis and Sholanda Riley; parents, Mattie Daniels and Purvis Smith; mother and father-in-law, Lettie and Prentiss Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Howard Donell Lewis; son, LaDarius Lewis; six grandchildren, DeAnthony Johnson, Christian Johnson, Brianna Riley, Jalen Johnson, PhaBian and PhaBrandi Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Kaisen and Kenslie Johnson; two sisters, Linda (Wilbur) Templeton and Barbara Smith; three brothers, Will Daniels, Kent (Felisha) Daniels and Keith (Michelle) Daniels; sister-in-law, Lois Nell Perkins; brother-in-law, Robert Clayton; son-in-law, LeRoy Riley.
Craft-Ginn Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
