Charles Richard Ervin, of Sandy Hook, died June 23, 2021, at the age of 82. He was born in Walthall County to Will and Ouida Ervin and has remained a lifelong resident of Sandy Hook.
Erwin worked for many years in the oil and gas industry and retired from Southern Natural Gas Co. He also was a farmer and enjoyed all aspects of farming. He was a member of Hurricane Creek Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, J. W. Ervin; and a brother-in-law, Louie Fortenberry.
Survivors are his wife, Carolyn Ervin; two daughters, Patty Stringer (Kenny) and Terri Ervin; a son DeWayne Ervin (Darlene); two sisters, Peggy Fortenberry and Renet Tullos (Larry); a brother, Jimmy Dale Ervin; a sister-in-law, Jo Ervin; two grandchildren, Krystal Jerkins (Derrick) and Channing Stringer (Kayla); four great-grandchildren, Callie Jerkins, Caitlyn Jerkins, Lainey Grace Stringer, and Maverick Stringer.
The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Zachary Smith, was June 26, 2021, Hurricane Creek Baptist Church, burial in the Hurricane Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Vance Berry, George Ervin, Kevin Herring, Nate Stafford, Terry Thomas, and Todd Thomas.
The honorary pallbearers were Henry “Coot” Fortenberry, Kevin Breland, Tracy Breland, Grant Grisham, and Mason McMullin.
Memorials may be made in honor of Charles to the Hurricane Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia was in charge of the arrangements.
