Norman Phillips, 106, died July 11, 2021. He was born to the late Alexander (Knott) Phillips and Maude Dixon Phillips Jan. 10, 1915.
He was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant MB Church in Coila. He lived his entire life in Carroll County and reared his family there. He worked as a farmer, custodian and bus driver for the head start program.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, one adopted daughter, four sons-in-law, four brothers, two sisters and one grandson.
Survivors are five daughters: Maudie Cooke-Wilcoxson, Lexington; Christine Bolton, Chicago; Joudie (Charlie) Thomas, Chicago; Ella Jordan, Coila; Frances (Robert) Williams, Coila; one son, David (Kim) Phillips, Avon Lake, OH; two adopted children: Renee Campell, Indianapolis, IN; George (Marie) Shepard, Chicago; two daughters-in-law: Odessa Phillips, Chicago, IL; Vallie Smith Phillips, Coila; Clyde (Shirley) Phillips, Tylertown; one sister-in-law: Rosie Lee Phillips, Coila; two God-children: Samuel Donley and Thelma Donley, Lexington; 33 grandchildren; 75 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren.
A service was July 18, 2021 at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Coila, Revs. Robert Williams and Thomas Keys officiating, interment in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joe Moore, T.L. Williams Jr., Mark Streater, Lorenzo Lawrence, Sander Moore and Kendra Amos.
Honorary pallbearers were Clyde Phillips, Robert Phillips, Charlie Thomas, Daryl Phillips, Robert Williams, George Shepard and David Phillips Sr.
Skeeter Robinson Funeral Home in Grenada was in charge of the arrangements.
