Jerry Albert Stewart, 82, born Nov. 15, 1938, died Sept. 10, 2021, at his home. Funeral services were Sept. 13, 2021, in the Morrison Heights Baptist Church sanctuary, burial at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery, all in Clinton.
He was born in Tylertown, the oldest of four children to George Albert and KT Stewart. He graduated from Tylertown High School where he was active in multiple sports. His senior football team went undefeated and participated in the Gas Bowl in Prentiss.
In 1956, he entered the University of Southern Mississippi, and enrolled in the ROTC. In 1960, he graduated from USM where he received a degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance. After being active in ROTC at USM he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the US Army.
In 1960, He entered finance school at Indianapolis, IN, with a first assignment as a finance officer to Ft. Rucker, AL. Between 1961 and 1982 he served in the US Army reserve as a finance officer with various duty assignments at numerous posts. He retired as a Colonel.
In 1962, he began his career with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi as a sales and marketing representative. He was also affiliated with Standard Life Insurance Co. He retired in 2002 after 40 years of service.
He was a member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton for 50 years where he served as a deacon and served on many committees. He was a member of Faithful Followers Life Group and Legacy of Faith.
He was supportive of school and community activities that his children and grandchildren were active in. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling and being outdoors.
He is preceded in death by his parents Albert and KT Stewart, in laws, Austin and Odera Stogner, his sister Janice Kaye Stewart, and brother in laws Paris Ladner and Davis Boyd.
He is survived by his wife and love of his life of 62 years, Joy Stogner Stewart; children, son Alan Albert Stewart (wife Melea) and daughter Lisa Stewart Williamson (husband Bryan); grandchildren, Shannon Stewart Aaron (husband Bobby), Cole Alan Stewart (wife Kelsi), James Taylor Williamson (wife Jessica), and Jerry Landon Williamson; great-grandchildren, Paden Grace Williamson and Emma Presley Aaron; his sisters Janet S. Ladner and Diane S. Boyd; brother-in-law, Tim Stogner (wife Mary).
