Canzata Bridges Burrell died Oct. 7, 2021. She was born Aug. 13, 1920, to Dezzie Brown Bridges and Young Bridges.
She served as a deaconess at Mt Hermon Baptist Church, retired from Methodist Hospital as a nurse technician, and was 101 years old. She was also a homemaker, PTA president, March of Dimes captain, teacher assistant, scholar at Union Baptist College and Theological Seminary, volunteer at Charity hospital and entrepreneur as co-owner and office manager of Robert Burrell Trucking Service and Canzata’s Sweetshop.
Survivors are four children: Connie Burrell (John) Vanison, Daisy Burrell Scott, Charlotte Burrel Campbell, and Brenda Burrell; 13 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services in New Orleans were Oct. 15, 2021, at Mt Hermon Baptist Church, New Orleans. Additional funeral services in Mississippi were Oct. 16, 2021, at St. John National Baptist Church, Columbia.
Pallbearers were Brendon Bell, Davon Bell, Jared Pierce, DeJohn Vanison, Iverson Vanison, Shawn Varnado Jr., Bradley Warren and Reuben Woodard.
Honorary pallbearers were Devonte Bell, Kristopher Bell, Robert Campbell, Royce Campbell, Herbert Cressey, Cedric Holliday, Samuel Myles, Latrel Tibbet, Geoffrey Vanison, Isaiah Vanison, Jeremy Vanison, John Vanison Jr., John Vanison Sr., DeSean Varnado, Shawn Varnado Sr., Christian Woodard and Stanley Young.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
