Donell Slocum, 68, of McComb, and a native of Tylertown, died Oct. 18, 2021, at his residence. Slocum was born July 7, 1953, in Walthall County to Eugene Slocum and Donice Slocum.
He attended JJ Gulledge High School. He accepted Christ at a young age and joined Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church.
In 1969, he moved to Los Angeles, CA, where he worked various jobs from janitor car wash detailer and supervisor. In 1979, he moved back to Walthall County where he became a brick mason. He was master of his craft. He enjoyed mentoring, assisting and sharing his knowledge with others. He enjoyed sports, fishing and music. He loved to dance.
Survivors are his lifelong partner, Darlene Howard of Tylertown; two sons, Kenyon Slocum (Samantha) of Jonesboro, LA, and Michael Slocum (Jalessa) of Dallas, TX; one daughter, Latrice Slocum of Ontario, CA; nine grandchildren, Joseph Alarcon, Kenyon Slocum Jr., Nicholas Alarcon, Nathin Slocum, Nathan Alarcon, Jessie Slocum, Mary Slocum, Michaela Slocum and Michael Slocum Jr.; five aunts, Betty Jones of Los Angeles, CA, Ferry Dean Bullock, Mary Gatlin, Earnestine Tate and Willie Mae Wroten, all of Tylertown; three uncles, Walter Slocum of Atlanta, GA, Donald Jones Sr. (Mary) of Fontana, CA, and Roy Lee Jones of Tylertown; a special cousin, Hope Jones-Raiford.
A funeral service was Nov. 6, 2021, at Craft-Ginn Funeral Chapel in Tylertown.
