LaSharne Simmons Cotton, 64, of Tylertown, died Nov. 8, 2021, at Select Specialty Hospital in Jackson.
Born Nov. 28, 1956, in Jackson, she was the daughter of the late Quinnis Simmons, and the late Gerlean Cowart Simmons. She was raised by her grandparents, Rufus and Ardella Cowart.
She was a 1973 graduate of JJ Gulledge Memorial High School. She married the love of her life, Wayne Cotton June 1, 1974, and they spent 47 years together.
She became a member of St. James UMC, and later a member of Magee’s Creek MBC. She pursued a nursing career, becoming a licensed practical nurse, and then a registered nurse, working at multiple facilities. She spent the bulk of her nursing career serving at Marion General Hospital, and retired from nursing, spending her last nursing days with L&L Hospice in Tylertown.
Survivors are her daughter, Ketrice Keys (Curtis) of Bassfield; son, Danny Cotton (LaShara) of Tylertown.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Cotton; her daughter, Sharnwanika Cotton.
A graveside (committal) service was Nov. 15, 2021, at Magee’s Creek MBC Cemetery, with Rev. Curtis Keys officiating, interment in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Nicholas Cotton, Kyron Pittman, Billy Stewart, Kendrick Hilliard, Byron Cotton, Rodney Cotton, Rodney (Scooter) Cotton and Fredrick Weary.
Honorary pallbearers were Danny Cotton, Curtis Keys Sr., Nickolas Cotton, Joshua Cotton, Curtis Keys Jr. and Cameron Cotton.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
