Walthall’s Chamber: making good things happen
Your Chamber dues are an investment in your community! A group with an active interest in developing, growing and promoting our community the Chamber is a working group with several committees involved in everything from economic development to staging a number of community events.
Some of those events have been ongoing Chamber projects for years, while others are relatively new. And this year the Chamber stepped in to involve itself in other events, assuring citizens their donations are used wisely and 100% goes to the recipients.
•A Chamber committee sponsors the South Mississippi Boucherie (pronounced: boo-sher-EE) March 25-26 at Southwest Events Center. The term “boucherie” translates loosely as a “big hog cookin’.” It’s a barbeque contest for pros and amateurs in cooperation with the Memphis Barbeque Network.
•The Christmas Adopt-a-Family program operates as an arm of the Chamber. Between financial and product donations, the Chamber was able to see over 80 families provided with toys for the kids, blankets, coats and food.
•Walthall County Dairy Festival, the county’s premier event each June, is accomplished by a Chamber sponsored committee, as are other dairy month activities.
•To further industrial progress, a 35-acre addition to the industrial park on Cemetery Road, is available.
•The Chamber recognizes existing industry with information on programs and incentives available for industries that already are located here.
•Tylertown’s well- known Christmas in the Park is a function of a Chamber committee.
•Christmas shopping at home promotions concluding in a big drawing for $1250 in Tylertown Shopping Dollars, to promote hometown shopping.
•Springtime’s Easter Parade in Centennial Square and Holmes Water Park’s community-wide Easter Egg Hunt are Chamber-sponsored.
•The Chamber sponsors Tylertown’s Christmas parade, the Miss Hospitality selection tea, a town-wide Halloween party, recognition of individuals who have made lasting contributions to the community.
The Chamber is an active, working organization that makes things happen, and we haven’t even touched on the cooperation of the county Economic Development Authority–an off-shoot of the chamber–and its role in attracting new industry and staying attuned to present day needs of the community.
Good things are being done and good things are in the works, because of the Walthall Chamber of Commerce, that’s the reason your membership and support is important!
