Deadline to file if homestead changed
County residents who experienced a change in homestead status last year will need to file a new application for homestead exemption by Thursday, March 31`.
Otherwise, citizens who have a valid 2021 application for homestead exemption on file at the tax assessor-collector’s office are automatically signed up for 2022 unless one of these changes occurred:
•Change in marital status in 2021;
•Purchase or building of a new home in 2021;
•You or your spouse became 65-years-old in 2021;
•You or your spouse became 100%disabled in 2021;
•If you made a deed change in 2021;
•You are filing for homestead exemption for the first time.
If you have never filed before, bring the following information to the Walthall Tax Assessor’s office in the courthouse by Thursday, March 31:
•Copy of your deed;
•Social security numbers;
•Full cost of home and the amount of down payment;
•Tag numbers of all vehicles;
•Proof of age and/or disability.
