Herlin L. Anthony, 92, a lifelong resident of the Darbun Community, died April 13, 2022.
He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean Conflict. With a strong work ethic, Anthony worked for many years as the owner of Anthony’s Barber and Beauty Salon and was a driver with Synergy Gas for over 30 years. He was a Master Mason and Shriner with the Varnel 282 Masonic Lodge.
He raised cattle, horses, and mules, loved being outdoors hunting quail and riding his horses. He enjoyed talking to people and never met a stranger. He was known for his generosity and grew a community garden to be able to provide food for anyone in need. He was a member at Magee’s Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 62 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Ed” and Mildred Bennett Anthony; a daughter, Jackie Brown; two brothers, Bobby Anthony and Lloyd Anthony; a sister Lucy Felder; and a nephew Tommy Anthony.
Survivors are his wife of 68 years, Mildred Anthony; a daughter, Sheila Brock (Mark); two sons, Kenneth Anthony (Judy) and William Anthony (Gwen); eight grandchildren, Aaron Ginn, Rachelle Ginn, Jade Brock Morris (Andy), K.W. Anthony (Kimberly), Jace Anthony, Josh Anthony (Jess), Sarah Singley (Alex), and Mirissa King; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral service was April 18, 2022, at Magee’s Creek Baptist Church, Rev. Lloyd Whitman and Rev. Greg Anthony officiating, burial in the church cemetery
Pallbearers were Aaron Ginn, Andy Morris, Josh Anthony, K.W. Anthony, Jace Anthony and Alex Singley.
Honorary pallbearers were Rickie Felder, Rhett Anthony, and Mike Anthony.
Colonial Funeral Home of Columbia was in charge of the arrangements.
