Maeola Coleman, 95 of Foxworth, died at her residence April 3, 2022. She was born Sept. 27, 1926, in Marion County to the late Sam Smith and Melissa Jordan Smith.
She joined Little Rock MB Church at a young age. After moving to New Orleans, she joined Progressive Missionary Baptist Church. She prepared famous “breakfast pork chops” on designated Sunday mornings as a fundraiser to feed the hungry. She was also a member of the senior choir and served as president of the pastor’s aide committee.
Her occupations were domestic work and cooking for various clients until her retirement. In 2005 she reunited with Little Rock Church where she remained a member until her health declined.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lindsey Coleman; son, Joe Edward McGowan; eight siblings: Lee Anna Smiley, AC Smiley, Vera Billy, WC Smiley, Jessie Lee Johnson, Eloise Ephraim, Helen Husband and Ollie Gene Smiley.
Survivors are her children, Charles Lampton of New Orleans, Leza Roberson (JT) of Aiken, SC; Sharon Coleman of Hattiesburg; stepdaughter, Shirley (Chris) Mouton of New Augusta; lifelong friend, Birdie Hogan; a special cousin, Mary Jean Frisby; a special neighbor, Shirley Forbes; special friend, Patricia Parker; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were April 9, 2022, at Little Rock MB Church in Foxworth, Rev. Willie Gable, Jr. officiating, with interment in the church cemetery.
