Rosie Lee May, 96, of Jayess, died July 18, 2022, at her residence. Born March 6, 1926, she was the daughter of Annie L. Santin.
Shortly after joining South Springhill MB Church, she was elected church secretary. She also held other positions including home mission president, Sunday School teacher, and church treasurer.
She was married to Ulease May on July 30, 1941, and they had 18 children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ulease May; daughter, Barbara Gregory; five sons, Readus, Ulysses, Clayton, Melvin and Edward; two sisters, Daisy and Edna; two brothers, Ramsey and Luther Jr.; three grandson, Travis, Warren and Jeffery; two great grandsons, Tavares and Lorenzo.
Survivors are 10 daughters, Nellie Pittman, Elnora Beverly (Garry) and Parlean Myers, all of Jayess; Martha Hayes of Monticello, Gloria Smith, Rosetta Lee (Billy) and Susie McNeil, all of Silver Creek, Arnella Williams of San Francisco, CA, and Cora Gatlin of Bogalusa; three sons, Kelvin May (Gloria) of Port Arthur, TX, Lee Alton May of Mendenhall, Michael May of Jayess; three daughters-in-law, Carolyn McGowan of Monticello, Hilda May of Hattiesburg, and Rose May of Gary, IN; one sister, Hazel Brown of Reading, PA; 62 grandchildren; 135 great grandchildren; 35 great great grandchildren.
A funeral service and burial was July 30, 2022, at South Springhill Baptist Church, Monticello, with Bishop De’Sean Toler officiating and rendering the eulogy.
Pallbearers were Paul Carter Jr., Andrew Beverly, Jason Williams, Matthew Beverly, Jonathan Williams, Quinton Beverly, Willie Williams Jr., Rashawn McGee.
Honorary pallbearers were Kelvin May, Michael May, Darren May, Alonzo Williams, VaShon McGee, Lee Alton May, Wayne May, Kenneth McGee, Melvin May Jr. and Levester Smith Jr.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
