John O. Long, Jr., 70, of McComb, died Sept. 5, 2022. Long was born Jan. 29, 1952, in Louisiana to the late James O’Neal Long Sr. and Buetha Dillon.
He was a graduate of Tylertown High School and joined the U.S. Army where he served for 15 years. During his time in the Army he completed several deployments in Germany and a tour in the Gulf War.
He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of House of Prayer Ministries until his health failed. Long was married to Shirley James Aug. 5, 2011.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Dillon.
Survivors are his wife, Shirley James Long of McComb; son, Damion (Tracy) Matthews of Cincinnati, OH; three daughters, Mia (Lance) Norris, Alisha (Christopher) Kenny and Mignon Long, all of McComb; one stepson, Gregory (Breanna) James of Hazel Green, AL; one brother, Carol Long of San Francisco; three brothers-in-law, Lynell (Pamela) James of Summit, Sandy James of Magnolia, and Stanley E. James of Jackson; nine grandchildren.
A funeral service was Sept. 10, 2022, at Greater Powerhouse Church, interment in Dillon Cemetery, pastor Anthony Wilson officiating.
