Houston Kent Stogner, 64, of Dexter, died Nov. 11, 2022. He was born in Tylertown to Rossie and Fannie Stogner and has remained a lifelong resident of Walthall County.
He was a graduate of Dexter High School, Southwest Junior College, and Mississippi State University where he received a degree in chemical engineering. He worked at the Bogalusa Paper Mill for 38 years before retiring in 2016.
Stogner enjoyed listening to classic rock music, playing golf, and all things Mississippi State. He enjoyed all sports, especially ice hockey and golf. He served as a board member of the Tylertown Country Club. He was a member of Crystal Springs Baptist Church where he was a deacon.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Stogner; and his father-in-law, Billy Ray Smith. Kent is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cindy Stogner, a daughter, Sarah Brown (Steven); a son, Blaine Stogner; his mother-in-law, Frances Smith; two sisters-in-law, Susan Johnson (Brett) and Mary Jane Fruge (Jerry); a grandson, Hudson Kent Brown; two nieces, Katherine Todd (Tyler) and Debera Reeves (Scott); and three nephews, Michael Stogner (Wendy), Zackery Johnson (Brittany), and Chess Johnson.
The funeral services were Nov. 14, 2022, at Crystal Springs Baptist Church, Rev. Danny Stevens officiating, burial in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Les Lampton, Mickey McDaniel, Barry Stringer, Chuck Stogner, Jake Smith, Guy Copeland, Cass Barnes, and Craig Pigott.
Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Crystal Springs Baptist Church, Scott Luper, Bruce Knippers, Bill Sartin, Mike Laird, Randy Pigott, David Lee, Jimmy Lowery, and Rod Ervin.
Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia was in charge of the arrangements.
