A Mass of Christian Burial was Nov. 12, 2022, at St. Rita Catholic Church for Mary Jane Wood Blanchard, 82, who died Nov. 8, 2022, at Chateau D’Ville Rehab and Retirement in Donaldsonville, LA, Rev. Bill Melancon officiating, interment at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 12, 1940, in Tylertown. She began her working career at Bell South Phone Co. in New Orleans, where she met her husband, Raymond, of 43 years. She was also an accountant for University Radio and TV, and later became a hairdresser and opened her own salon “Jane’s Hair Wiz” in Lake Charles.
Mrs. Blanchard was a devout Catholic and parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church while living in Lake Charles. She enjoyed being outdoors working on her flower beds, vegetable garden, and tending to her chickens. Mary’s favorite pastimes were listening and singing to music, playing scrabble, doing crossword puzzles, and playing basketball.
She is survived by son, Brad Blanchard (Lisa) of White Castle, LA; daughters, Renee Blanchard of Mandeville, LA and Kristi Bethea (Scott) of Lake Charles, LA; grandchildren, Brittany Elmer (Joe), Cannon Martinez (Mike), Maggie Lemoine (Hunter), Kellen Rooney, Mollie Borel, Frankie Borel, Braden Bethea, Kirklyn Bethea and Rayson Bethea; great-grandchildren, Lane, Ashton, and Joseph Elmer and Lillian Martinez; and her siblings, Elsie Euper (Riley), Glenn Wood and Addie Mae Blanchard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Joseph Blanchard; parents, Noel and Mamie Brock Wood; and brothers, Gilbert Wood, John Henry Wood, James Preston Wood and Chandler “Chan” Wood.
Pallbearers were Brad Blanchard, Scott Bethea, Braden Bethea, Kellen Rooney, Rayson Bethea, and Lane Elmer.
Honorary pallbearer was Glenn Wood.
Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge, LA, was in charge of arrangements.
