BBQ fans, the Boucherie is back!

The South Mississippi Boucherie is set for a return engagement at Southwest Events Center, Saturday, March 25. Last year’s competition attracted professional cooking teams from over the Southeastern US and amateur cooking teams from throughout Mississippi as well as the local area.
It’s a family-friendly event designed as a “spend all the time you wish” affair, watching the cooking teams, hanging around for the judging, taking in the entertainment, or enjoying all sorts of local fare from local and regional food trucks set up for the day.
Trophies and prizes are again awarded to Professional and Patio (amateur) competitors this year as the event is sanctioned as part of the Memphis Barbeque Network. Application forms are available on the web at: southmsboucherie.com. You can also access the website through the South Mississippi Boucherie Facebook page.
While cooking teams will begin arriving prior to the event to get cookers lined up for slow smoking the day prior to the Boucherie, the main event for the public is Saturday..
Tylertown Rotary Club kicks things off with a pancake breakfast from 7-10 a.m. for competitors to fuel up for the last few hours cooking time and for the public and spectators.
A 5K walk/run is again sponsored by Cardio World. It starts at 8 a.m. at the events center and ends at the same location.
Other activities are planned throughout the day. There’s a food truck festival for folks to sample what area food trucks have to offer in the way of, not only barbeque, but other local specialties, as well.
A cake and pie baking contest is open to the public with a $100 grand prize. Drop off your entries Friday night, then come back Saturday to see how they were judged.
Craft vendors will be set up the day of the competition.
Again, there’s a Kids’ Korner with inflatables, face painting, plus there’s an on-site playground.
Entertainment’s also back with a mix of local and regional bands, including 98 West, plus youth groups invited.
