Walthall hit by ‘F-0’ tornado last week
Last week’s tornado in Walthall County caused little damage, according to the Walthall Emergency Management Agency.
The only real damage was to a church at the corner of Hwy. 27 north and Manning’s Crossing, plus two residents had a tree blown down in their yards.
The county was unable to get a disaster declaration on its own because of the lack of damage, and it is doubtful that a surrounding county had enough damage for Walthall to “piggyback” with, according to emergency operations director Royce McKee.
The National Weather Service rated the storm as an F-0 or “gate tornado,” with winds of 40-72 miles per hour.
