Evelyn Naomi Singleton Williams, of Tylertown, died Feb. 4, 2023. She was born July 17, 1944, to the late Ollie and Solomon Singleton.
After graduating high school, she furthered her education at Alcorn State University where she earned a degree in business education and elementary education.
She moved to Chicago and received master’s degrees from Chicago State University and Roosevelt University. She was employed with Chicago Public Schools for 44 years. While there, she was appointed as head administrator at Carter G. Woodson Child-Parent Center and served in this capacity until her retirement in 2008.
She met P. Lonnie Williams and they were married Aug. 28, 1965, and were married 58 years and had three daughters.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brothers, L.H., Jack, Clarence, Clyde, Bobby and Fate Singleton; her sisters, Vesite Bias and Zelma Fletcher; her granddaughter, Christiana Fowler; her father and mother-in-law, Patrick and Tillie Bell Williams.
Survivors are her husband, P. Lonnie Williams; three daughters, LaTunja Williams; Shirrie (James) Williams Jackson, Lonyel (Dr. Paul) Oleghe; grandchildren, Lance Robinson, JaLisa Jackson, Jemari Fowler, Jalen Jackson, Javonna Fowler, Leah Robinson, Jayla Jackson, Lamosi Oleghe; two great grandchildren, Messiah Robinson and Azuri Oleghe; three sisters, Ruth Lockhart of Greenville, Ruby Scott, and Geraldine Singleton of New York; A special brother/nephew, Leon Singleton of Milwaukee, WI, a special “sister/friend” Earline Lee.
Funeral services were Feb. 18, 2023, at Craft-Dillon Ginn Funeral Chapel, interment in Williams Memorial Garden Cemetery in Tylertown.
