Zoning hearing for medical marijuana facilities
A Tuesday, March 7, public hearing is set for 6 p.m. at City Hall for public comment on Tylertown’s modified zoning ordinance allowing for specific areas where medical marijuana or cannabis, can be cultivated, disposed of, processed and dispensed.
A legal advertisement has been running in The Times announcing the hearing.
Aldermen recently passed the resolution updating the ordinance to allow for the facilities after the city chose to opt in to the state regulations allowing for medical cannabis. The Walthall County Board of Supervisors also voted to allow medical marijuana within the county prior to the city’s passing of the resolution. Municipalities and counties were given the option to opt out by the state law governing medical cannabis.
Basically, dispensaries will be allowed in zones C-2 and C-4 commercial districts of the town. Cultivation facilities are allowed in I-1 and I-2 industrial areas.
A zoning map at City Hall shows the areas defined above.
