Larry L. Carter, 54, of McComb, died Feb. 22, 2023, at Southwest Medical Center in McComb. He was born June 28, 1968, to Rev. Dr. Arnel and Verdia Lee Carter.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove East McComb Baptist Church. He excelled in football, basketball and track, receiving athletic scholarships. Upon graduating from South Pike High School in 1987, he advanced his studies at Alcorn State University and Eastern New Mexico University.
He was a member of Eureka Lodge #5 free and accepted masons. He was a Houston Texan fan. His passion was serving God, cooking, and dressing well. He was an offshoreman and construction worker. He also volunteered with the Salvation Army.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Dr. Arnel Carter; his grandparents Grover and Velma Williams and Rev. Alton and Lilly Bell Carter.
Survivors are his wife, Laverne Quinn-Carter of McComb; his mother, Verdia Lee Carter of McComb; two daughters: Amber (Damien) Eubanks, and Kim (Desmond) Ashley, both of McComb, one son, LaTedrick (Erica) Carter of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren, Amyria Eubanks, Damien Eubanks Jr., Ki’Myreion Quinn, Dez’Shae Ashley,; three brothers, Darryl (Dr. Adrine) Carter, of Amarillo, TX, Perry (Nicole) Cater, and Rev. Terry (Tillia) Carter of Houston, TX; two sisters, Conswella (Kent) Perkins of Summit, Centennia (Brian) Fry of Greenwood, LA; two brothers-in-law: John Dillon of Pascagoula, and M.L. (Tonya) Dillon Jr. of Tylertown; four sisters-in-law, Margie Dillon of McComb, Shirley (Willie) Cowart of Tylertown, Gloria Dillon of Brookhaven, and Mae Evelyn Steele of Gulfport; three special God sister, Laurie (William) Simmons, Shirley (M.F.) Kitchens, of McComb, and Shelia Westbrook of Tylertown.
Funeral services were March 4, 2023, at Pleasant Grove East McComb Baptist Church, McComb, with pastor Hilton Harrell officiating and rendering the eulogy, interment in the Shady Grove MBC Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Craig Carson, Greg Carson, Charlton Grey, Craig Hampton, Byron Redd and Greg Williams.
Honorary pallbearers were Darryl Carter, LaTedric Carter, Perry Carter, John Dillon, M.L. Dillon, Brian Fry, and Kent Perkins.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
