Boucherie BBQ event this weekend

Boucherie BBQ event this weekend
Get in step for Saturday’s South Mississippi Boucherie and all things barbeque at Southwest Events Center. While collectible Boucherie T-shirts were late in arriving due to a shipping delay, event organizers said they were being distributed to local banks at press time Monday. The “Peace, Love and Barbeque” T-shirts are available for $20 in youth and adult sizes, $22 for sizes 2X and larger.
In addition to the activities going on all day in conjunction with the Memphis Barbeque Network sanctioned barbeque competition for both amateur and professional teams, spectators can come and go as they wish. There is no admission to the grounds, and visitors are encouraged to watch the teams as they compete for a host of trophies and prizes to be awarded Saturday afternoon.
Rotary’s pancake breakfast kicks off at 7 a.m. and CardioWorld’s fun run begins at 8:15 a.m., right after the opening ceremonies at 8.
It’s an election year in Mississippi, with the bulk of state and local candidates seeking office. With that in mind, candidates are reminded they can rent booth space at the Boucherie for $100, enough room to pitch a tent, set up a table and talk to voters. Send your check to the Boucherie at P O Box 311 or visit the website: thesouthmsboucherie.com for contact information.
See the accompanying event schedule for an outline of what’s happening, when and where.
n advance of Saturday’s events, those interested in becoming a barbeque competition judge can sign up for a judge class from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday. Successful completion of the class will qualify you as a judge at any MBN sanctioned event.
Plus, there are Friday cooking contests, drop off cake and pie entries from 5:45-6; enter your favorite barbeque sauce recipe for judging, or participate in the chicken wing cookoff by showing up with a grill anytime after 3 p.m.
The Boucherie is family friendly and you’ll be comfortable letting the kids roam the grounds. An on-site playground is available to keep them well occupied, plus inflatable slides and bounce houses will be on site.
Craft vendors will on site all day Saturday with items crafted by local artisans that are truly unique to the Southwest Mississippi/Southeast Louisiana area.
In the mood for food? The Boucherie’s Food Truck Festival has made space available for some of the area’s best rolling chefs serving up a variety of food fare from their mobile kitchens. There’s sure to be something to catch the attention of everyone’s taste buds.
Water and soft drinks are available to quench your thirst, and the Boucherie will have beer available for adults.
The entertainment lineup has added LadySmith from 1-4 p.m.
Following the announcement of winners and awarding trophies at 5 p.m., a free nighttime concert is available to festival goers. The Clear Creek Band plays from 6-7 p.m., opening for JT McCaffrey, performing from 7-10 p.m.
