Odie Lee (O. L.) Hughes, Jr, 89, of Tylertown, died May 8, 2023, at the HCA Houston Healthcare in Kingwood, TX. He was born April 29, 1934, in Tylertown.
Funeral services were May 11, 2023, at Capps Funeral Home, burial in Crystal Springs Cemetery, Rev. Danny Stevens officiating.
Hughes was well known in Tylertown and the Dexter community. He made many friends over the years operating The Palace Drive Inn in Franklinton and his dozer/tractor service. He was a cattle master that loved working on the farm and raising cattle.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Debra Ann Smotherman; mother of his children Mary Jo Dunaway Hughes; father Odie Lee Hughes; mother Queen Victoria Lassiter Hughes; brother Woodrow Hughes; sister Ruth Hughes Warner; and son-in-law Mark Jones.
Survivors include his sons Odie Lee Hughes, III (Debbie) and Mark Duane Hughes (Debra); daughters Katrina Hughes Jones and Susan Hughes Thigpen (Donald); 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister-in-law, Earline Hughes; wife Irma Mills White Hughes.
Pallbearers were Odie Hughes IV, Mark Hughes Jr, Donald Thigpen Jr, Cody Metzler, Godfrey Mizell, and Woodrow Hughes.
