Joe Tate, 68, of Sandy Hook, died May 9, 2023 in his residence. He was born Feb. 6, 1955, in Bogalusa to the late Ellie Tate Sr. and Ruthie Mae Tate.
He was a member of Gaines Chapel AME church in Franklinton. He later moved to Hammond and married the late Geraldine Tate.
He enjoyed working in the yard fixing his truck or cars or anything pertaining outside including fishing. He also liked creating his own recipes in the kitchen.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Roland and Ardila James; three brothers, Ernest James, Lawrence Tate and Dexter Tate; two sisters, Brenda Tate and Ella Rodgers.
Survivors are four children, Dwight Trotter of Pascagoula, Chona Holmes (Perdale) Patterson of McComg; Joseph Tate of Kentucky, Phyllis Tate of Chicage, IL; 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; one God-daughter, Turwonnda Schrode; two brothers, Johnny and Ellie Tate Jr., both of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Janice Ladner of Mount Hermon, Sybil Sophin of Amith; one special friend, Betty Raiford of Sandy Hook.
Funeral services were May 19, 2023, at Craft-Dillon-Ginn Memorial Chapel in Tylertown, pastor Bobby Dillon officiating.
