Iva Mize
Iva Mize
June 7, 1936 – June 12, 2023
Iva Patten Mize died at her home in Tylertown. She was born and raised in Walthall County as one of eight children. She enjoyed the small town life, always active in her community and church, Tylertown Baptist. She worked as a secretary at Trustmark in Tylertown for many years.
She and her husband, the late James Mize, shared 61 years together. She and her late daughter, Belinda, shared a special bond that carried them throughout their lives.
She knew and loved the Lord and instilled her faith in her family. She loved music and worship, and was an active part of the church choir and spent many days playing hymns on her piano at home.
She took pride in her beauty and fashion, and thought a day spent at the hair salon was a day well spent. Getting dressed-up never stopped her though, as she loved to work in her yard. You could find her raking and gardening every day, without fail.
She was preceded in death by her husband James E Mize; daughter Belinda Mize Dyar; father Byron E. Patten; mother Ovie O. Fortenberry Patten; brothers Wesley Patten, Wilson Patten, and B. E. Patten, Jr.; sisters Wilder P. Magee, Lila P. Goodwin, and Iris P. Griffin.
Survivors include her sister Charlene P. Stringer; son-in-law Scott Reed Dyar; grandsons Justin Reed Dyar (Kaleigh) and Clayton James Dyar (Taylor); granddaughter Laura Lee Dyar Wand (Curtis); great grandchildren Hadlee Claire Wand, James Elliott Dyar, Jack Reed Dyar, John Walker Dyar and Ellis Brooke Dyar.
Funeral services were June 14, 2023, at Capps Funeral Home, burial in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Rev. Justin Knight officiating.
Pallbearers were Justin Dyar, Clayton Dyar, Tony Stringer, Trent Stringer, Taylor Stringer, and Curtis Wand.
Honorary pallbearers were Arlen Patten, David Griffin, and Jimmy Foil.
