Phyllis Marie Cowart Monroe, 63, of Tylertown, native of New Orleans, died June 28, 2023, in Hattiesburg. She was born June 7, 1960, in New Orleans to the late Johnny Cowart and Maude Kimble.
She had a passion for children and was employed by Pearl River Valley Opportunity Headstart and was a member of Mesa Mt. Olive Missionary Bapist Church. She also enjoyed cooking, socializing and music.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her grandparents, T.C. and Irene Gatlin and Claude Cowart and Florence Peter; three siblings, Florence, Tracy and Ronald Cowart.
Survivors are her husband John Monroe; her children, Aisha Cowart, Tylertown, Tron (Kenyata) Cowart, McComb, Monique Wesby, Laplace, LA, John Monroe Jr., New Orleans; a niece, Shannon Cowart; great niece, Braisa; 13 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; siblings, Tammy (Gregory), Laurent, Bruce Cowart of New Orleans, David Cowart of Tylertown, Vanessa Cowart of Shreveport, LA; three nephews, Desmond of Shreveport, LA, Monty and Reedy Cowart of New Orleans.
Funeral services were July 8, 2023, at Mesa Mt. Olive MBC in Tylertown, Rev. Brixie Gatlin officiating with interment in St. Paul Cemetery.
