James Ray “Bob” Smith, 66, of Tylertown, died July 19, 2023, at his residence. He was born Oct. 20, 1956, in Walthall County to the late Jess and Viola Smith.
When he left Salem High School, he enlisted in the military.
He met Gwen Jacobs and they got married on Aug. 5, 1979, and they had two children. He was a carpenter and enjoyed seeing people pleased with his work.
After many years he chose a second career as truck driving. He was a member of East Sunnyhill MB Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Ezra Smith, Sedgie Smith, Jessie Smith Jr. James Earl Bridges; four sisters, Margaret Bridges, Etta Johnson, Sherry Brent and Mattie Jean Bridges.
Survivors are his wife, Gwen Smith; one son, Montello (Sydney) S. Smith; two daughters, Lapatches (Rory) Barnes and Amy Carr; four grandchildren, Mikiah Dillon, Montassja Magee, Anyla Barnes and Aubrey Barnes, all of Tylertown; one sister, Bobbie Lee; one brother, Bishop James (Eddie Ruth) Bridges.
Funeral services were July 29, 2023, at East Sunny Hill MBC in Tylertown, Bishop Willie Dean officiating with interment in East Sunny Hill MBC Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tyrone Smith, Randy Lee, Robert Brent, Ronald Brent, Leander Ross and Jonathan Bridges.
Honorary pallbearers were Montello Smith, Rory Barnes, Clifton Carr, Douglas Jones, Wallace Bridges, Charles Magee, Michael Magee, Alvin Bridges, Michael Smith and Robert Smith.
