Robert G. Johnson, 92, of Columbia, died Aug. 2, 2023 at his residence. He was born April 2, 1931, in Tylertown. He was the youngest of 10 children.
He was a member of East Columbia Baptist Church; he was the oldest living member and served as a deacon for many years. Johnson had a career with Farm Bureau for over 30 years. He was an avid fisherman.
Funeral services were Aug. 4, 2023, at Capps Funeral Home, burial in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Rev. Dave Nichols officiating.
He was preceded in death by his sons Robert “Bob” Johnson, Jr. and Johnny Joe Johnson; father Robert “Bob” Johnson; mother Flora Crawford Lazarus; and nine siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years Eleanor Blackwell Johnson; son James “Jimmy” Johnson (Kem); daughter Kathy Johnson Stringer (John); grandchildren Jennifer McClendon, Scott Johnson, Paige Smith, Robert “Trey” Johnson, III, Heather Bailey and Evan Stringer; 10 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Scott Johnson, Evan Stringer, Robert E Johnson IV, Johnnie Ray Copeland, Chad Blackwell, and Rudolph Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers were Ben Bennett and James Johnson.
Special music was performed by Janiece Baughman.
