Rev. Ellis Dillon, Jr., 82, of Tylertown, died July 29, 2023, at Merit Health Wesley House in Hattiesburg after battling a lengthy illness.
He was born July 18, 1941, in New Orleans, to the late Ellis Dillon Sr. and Margaret Magee Dillon. He grew up in Tylertown with his two brothers and two sisters.
After graduating from J.J. Gulledge Memorial High School, he married his high school sweetheart, Frankie. In 1972, Rev. Dillon relocated his family to Pomona, Calif., where he worked for Pomona Unified School District as the lead landscaper. In 1976, he found the Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church and served as pastor for 30 years until his retirement in 2006. In 2017, he returned to Tylertown where he attended St. Paul MB Church and lead The Brotherhood and taught Bible study.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brother and one sister; his wife, Frankie Dillon; his sons, Rev. Edward Orlando Dillon (Naomi) and Rev. Rodney Fernando Dillonn Sr. (Shawneen); sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dillon and Ada Mack.
Survivors are his son, Eld. Randall Dillon (LaShawn); three foster sons,; one sister, Bobbie Nell; 10 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alma Jean (Bobby); brothers-in-law, Charles Dillon (Mary Ann), George Hewitt; God-daughter, Shuwanda (Darren) Gatlin.
Services were Aug. 19, 2023, at St. Paul MB Church, interment in St. Paul MB Church Cemetery.
