The South Mississippi Boucherie takes on a Mardi Gras theme this year when it returns to Southwest Events Center, Saturday, March 23.
“Let the Good Times Roll” sets the mood for the event, one of the first barbeque competitions of the year sanctioned by the Memphis Barbeque Network.
Professionals and amateur cooking teams will arrive Friday to set up and begin the slow cooking process that will end with Saturday’s judging and awarding of trophies and prizes.
After the judging, join the Boucherie for Rock Candy to the big stage from 6-9 p.m. With a mix of ‘80s, ‘90s and today’s music.
Turn out to watch the teams compete and see what techniques are used by both pro competition teams and patio (amateur) competitors.
Plenty of easts on site. The Boucherie Food Truck Festival will have a sampling of area cuisine available from local and area mobile vendors.
Start the day with Tylertown Rotary Club’s pancake breakfast from 7-10 a.m.
Join with Cardio World’s 5K walk/run.
Plenty to do for the family, and lots of activities to keep the kids occupied. The Boucherie’s craft vendor spaces are loaded with local crafts and unique items from a number of vendors. The Kid’s Corner is packed with activities to keep the young’uns well occupied. The Southland Express train rides return, and assortment of inflatable jumpers, a cornhole tournament along with face painting and an onsite playground opens plenty of wholesome activity for the kids while the parents browse and view the other attractions.
And, there’s a new local competition this year, dedicated to one of the founders of the Boucherie, the Stephen Pigott Memorial Trophy, a locally judged meat competition with trophy and cash award dedicated to Pigott, who was instrumental in the establishment of the Boucherie as one of Walthall County’s annual events.

In addition, an MBN Judges School will be held Friday prior to the event to train those who are interested in becoming a judge at other MBN competitions.
