Brenda Kay McGowan Jefferson, 75, died Feb. 9, 2024. She was born July 11, 1948, in Tylertown to the late Jesse and Vivian Magee McGowan.
She was educated in the Walthall County School system where she met her high school sweetheart, Mathew Jefferson. She later moved to New Orleans and attended Delgado Community College. In 1975, she began working at United Parcel Service where she began as a delivery driver and worked her way up to Regional District Manager before retiring in 1992.
She married Mathew Jefferson Oct. 17, 1976. She was an ordained minister at the Upper Room Bible Church and dedicated her life to spreading the gospel. She was a member of Abundant Life Church and loved to read her Bible, loved to pray with and for others and always encouraged others with a positive word.
Survivors are her husband, Mathew Jefferson; five children, Isaac Holmes, Jr. of Nashville, TN, Shefroney T. Mondy of Dallas, GA, Kimberly Gholar (Robert Gholar) of Oakvale, Keith Maye (Arlene Maye) of Byram, and LaKeisha N. Jefferson of New Orleans; grandchildren, Robert Gholar, Jr., Maryetta Randolph (Kenric Randolph), Dorian J. Wisdom, Elijah K. Maye (Myiesha Maye), Isaiah B. Holmes and Ah’tyana Kennedy; one great grandchild, Khaiden Gholar; sisters Gylendia R. McGowan and Lachele McGowan Lee..
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, and her granddaughter, Asia Maye.
Funeral services were Feb. 24, 2024, at Brandon Bay UM Church in Tylertown, pastor Leroy Thread officiating with interment in the Brandon Bay Cemetery.
