Town gets new street,
hears sales tax report
Aldermen last Tuesday took care of housekeeping chores, including the naming of Tylertown’s newest street, being completed on the south side of Hwy. 98, west of Tyler Avenue (Hwy. 583).
The street is named Stephen Drive and joins Tyler Avenue with Tylertown Animal Hospital to the west.
Named in memory of the late Stephen W. Pigott II, a young Tylertown businessman who died in July 2023, the new street provides access to the commercial development that was a part of a parcel owned by partners responsible for the development of the north side of Hwy. 98, along Plaza Drive. Blackwell Family Medicine and Brumfield Drugs have announced plans to build at the new location.
The town received its report of sales tax returned to the city treasury by the state. According to the February report, which represents sales made by Tylertown businesses in January, the city sales tax collection was $61,662, a drop from the $64,600 collected during the same period in 2025. Overall, yearly collections are running $425,380, about $4,000 less than the overall collections of 2025.
