William A. “Bill” Morris

William A. “Bill” Morris
March 16, 1941 – May 4, 2026
William Alexander “Bill” Morris, age 85, died May 4, 2026. He was born on March 16, 1941, in Tylertown, to Algy and Estelle Morris of Dexter.
Bill was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Ann Johnson Morris, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage. He attended Dexter High School, graduating in 1957, and was a lifelong member of Crystal Springs Baptist Church.
After high school, Bill served in the National Guard, an experience he spoke of often. In 1962, he was deployed during the Oxford Incident, commonly referred to as the “Battle of Oxford.” Following his service, Bill worked in the pulpwood business before discovering his true passion in farming. In 1979, he began his dairy farm, dedicating the next 30 years to building and maintaining it.
His commitment and hard work earned him recognition as a Soil Conservationist Award winner and Dairyman of the Year in Walthall County.
Even in retirement, Bill remained active and found joy in caring for his varied collection of peacocks, pheasants, and chickens. Rarely venturing far from home, he could often be found on his front porch—checking on neighbors, tinkering around the house, or visiting local country stores where he enjoyed conversation and laughter with friends. Bill spent nearly his entire life within the borders of the Dexter community and wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. With his larger-than-life personality and great sense of humor, he was someone you could never forget, and he truly loved the simple, outdoor life he built.
Bill is survived by his children, Kathy (Bruce) Knippers of Tylertown, and William (Paula) Morris of Hattiesburg; his sister, Judy (William) Fortenberry of Madison, MS; his grandchildren, Noelle (BJ) Storey, Dylan Knippers, Tripp Morris, Tucker Morris, and Truitt Morris; and his great-granddaughter, Luna Storey.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ann Morris; his parents, Algy and Estelle Morris.
Visitation was May 7, 2026, at Crystal Springs Baptist Church, Tylertown, with Bro. Danny Stevens and Dr. Tommy Stogner officiating. Burial followed at Crystal Spring Cemetery. Hartman-Hughes was in charge of the arrangements.
