Organizers to revive DYB after COVID killed season

Organizers are trying to revive Dixie Youth Baseball in the county after suffering two setbacks last year, the cancellation of the season because of COVID-19 and dwindling interest leading to a steep falloff in player registration.
The league is setting up online registration. Follow the Walthall DYB Facebook page for posts related to registration times and dates.
“Even prior to COVID-19 last year, registration numbers were down drastically. The league had recruited barely enough players for two teams in each age bracket, or less than 100 total registrations,” a DYB spokesman said. “In order to continue playing Dixie Youth Baseball in Walthall County, more parents and kids need to get involved.”
The league needs parents to volunteer, not only as coaches but as helpers. If you are interested in joining the DYB board and getting more involved, email contact information to walthalldyb@gmail.com.
Walthall Dixie Youth Baseball is the longest-running and oldest youth sports program in the county. Started as Walthall Little Boys Baseball in the mid-1950s, the program has fielded teams every year for almost 70 years, when COVID-19 forced cancellation of games for the first time in its history.
