The Boucherie is back and better: Sept. 11-12 at Southwest Events Center
A lot of water’s rolled under the bridge since plans were first announced for the South Mississippi Boucherie. But now, finally, with pandemics hopefully past, a date has been set.
Sept. 10-11, the barbeque festival is set to kick off at Tylertown’s Southwest Events Center.
“Everything’s on go,” Stephen Pigott, spokesman for the Boucherie said. “We have 35 entries confirmed—both amateur and professional.”
Pigott said organizers have modified the Friday night open competition. Anyone can enter the “Anything But” division by paying the $100 fee—which includes two steaks to cook.
Our original trophies have been kept and are ready to be awarded at the conclusion of the competition. Preston Rushing, a local welder and fabricator, hand crafted the trophies to be awarded to the top competitors in each division, along with smaller trophies for the categories.
“We are planning something for veterans and first responders since Friday coincides with 9-11,” Pigott said. Winston Fortenberry, a member of the Boucherie planning committee is also the county’s veterans’ affairs officer and is planning a special time to observe the events of 9-11.
Tylertown Rotary Club will serve breakfast Saturday morning, Cardio World is sponsoring a 5K run and arrangements have been made for craft vendors to have booths and exhibits.
“There’s also a Children’s Corner with games and inflatables, and we’ve opened up a classic car show for the event.” Pigott said. “Our Facebook page and website has a bunch of information, along with downloadable forms for whatever you’re considering entering, whether it’s the barbeque competition or you want booth space as a vendor.”
