Leslie L. Varnado, 82, died July 10, 2021, in Hattiesburg.
Born Jan. 4, 1939, in Pike County, he was the son of the late John Varnado and Freddie Mae Tate Varnado.
He was married to Laura Varnado Feb. 27, 1965, and they had five children and one goddaughter.
Varnado joined Shady Grove Baptist Church at an early age where he was a member of the senior choir, male chorus and the trustee board.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Sean Varnado; grandon, Marly Williams; two brothers, Leo and John Jr. Varnado; three sisters, Johnnie Mae Varnado, Celia Gill and Earlene Varnado.
Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Laura Varnado; four daughters, Talsa (David) Lang, Vicky Williams, Keithrich (Michael) Johnson, Delia Crockrum, all of Hattiesburg; one brother, Willie James Varnado of Englewood, Calif.; goddaughter, Patrice Ellzey; two sisters, Vernestine Varnado and Asaline Toliver, both of Milwaukee, WI; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; two adopted grandchildren.
A funeral service was July 20, 2021, at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Osyka, with Rev. Elton McEwen rendering the eulogy and officiating.
Interment was in the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jamalus Varnado, Devin Lang, D’Quan Varnado, Darious Lang, Korneilus Varnado and Patrick Varnado.
Honorary pallbearers were Lee R. Varnado, Elmer Gardner, David L. Varnado, Willie J. Varnado, Robert E. Varnado and C.P. Tate.
Washington Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
