Funeral services for Mary Ann Fortenberry Ware, 76, of Pearl River, La, were Dec. 28, 2021 at Hartman-Hughes Funeral Home, burial in the Tylertown Cemetery II.
She died at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, LA, Dec. 22, 2021. She was born April 6, 1945, in Tylertown, to the late Walter Stanley and Frankie Fortenberry. Along with her parents she was also preceded in death by her sisters Myrna Stinson and Mattie Seal; sister-in-law Betty Fortenberry; father-in-law Joseph Ware, Jr.; and mother-in-law Ethel May Ware.
Mrs. Ware was a proud veteran of the Army National Guard of Mississippi for more than 23 years. While serving her country in Desert Storm she received three decorations: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal. She was also a member of the National Guard Assn. of the United States, Sigma Theta Tau International, and Phi Theta Kappa. After Mrs. Mary’s retirement she enjoyed sewing, animals.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years Joseph H. Ware, III; daughter Martha (Ray) Harris; grandchildren Jennifer Harris and Rebecca Harris; brother Richard (Donnis) Fortenberry; sister-in-law Libby Sherwin; brother-in-law Billy Seal.
Pallbearers were John Seal, Steven Fortenberry, Stephen Smith, Scott Stinson, Parker Langston, and Trey Hill. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Sherwin (in absentia), Nathan Smith, and Mitch Fortenberry.
