Football ends; Wildcats head right into basketball

Following right on the heels of football, the Salem Wildcats opened their basketball season the following week, taking on Woodlawn Prep of Columbia, Nov. 8, and Loyd Star, Nov. 11.
Although the Wildcats lost their final football game to Richton before a home crowd on Thursday, Nov. 3, the boys and girls basketball squads started off the season with a couple wins in an away game.
The Wildcats defeated Woodlawn Prep 45-39 in their first game of the season, played at Columbia.
The Lady Wildcats won easily in their game, taking away a 51-9 victory.
The season’s second game on Thursday saw the Wildcats lose to Loyd Star 62-58.
At press time the girls’ score had not been reported.
The Wildcats were set to play this week, West Marion, Tuesday at Foxworth; sand West Lincoln, Thursday in a home game at Salem’s gymnasium.
